What Is Remote Desktop Access?
One of the buzzwords of high-tech business today is Remote Desktop Access. This term refers to the ability of a consumer to access one computer located in a remote location from the location they are currently in.
For example, Remote Desktop Access enables an individual to access their office computer from their home computer, or a business to access the Japan office computers from the Shanghai or Chicago office computers.
While usually set-up as a computer-to-computer access, many providers of Remote Desktop Access are moving to formats that require only an internet connection, including mobile phones and PDAs.
Remote Desktop Access is most commonly made possible via software application, enabling one computer/internet access portal to command another computer.
It is available for all computer platforms. Remote Desktop Access does have to be structured and set up correctly, which can be rather confusing, depending on which service or application you choose to use.
There are also a multitude of Remote Desktop Access providers, which handle the set-up and security for a fee, and various software programs that can be purchased which facilitate remote access. These software programs usually carry advanced encryption capabilities for security reasons. In this case the Remote Desktop Access program is usually its own entity, rather than part of a suite of applications.
The computers being controlled by Remote Access need to be connected to the same computer network, and typically require administrative access. Remote Access is generally password protected, but once access is granted, all of the functions and files of the remote desktop can be accessed and utilized from the on-site computer.
Various safety features can also be customized in Remote Access software, such as disallowing the accessing user to alter, delete or change any permanent programs on the target, or remote, computer.
Remote Desktop Access is simplifying business internationally, from small-town offices to international corporations. The frustration and lost time commonly experienced as computer users strive to keep track of multiple digital data files is almost completely eliminated.
With the help of Remote Desktop Access, the ubiquitous questions like; “Which computer did I save that on?” or “Do I have all the necessary files on my USB drive” or “Did I remember to email that to myself?” are becoming obsolete.
